Call Accounting Specialist ISI Telemanagement Helps University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff

Often, colleges and universities are on the cutting edge of technology. From research departments that help develop the latest innovations, to students who cruise around campus with the most cutting-edge gadgets, colleges are known for being technologically advanced. In the case of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, the school had gone to great lengths to streamline its network and become one of the largest deployments of IP telephony at an educational institution. It installed 1,900 IP phones in student dormitories and administrative buildings on Cisco (News
- Alert) networks, with the plan to install 2,200 more in the near future.
After this deployment, the school decided it needed a call accounting system that worked hand-in-hand with its Cisco Unified Communications (News - Alert) Manager to keep track of departmental telecom billing. The school realized it had to generate its own telecom billing, creating bills that were detailed and accurate. It also needed to find a solution that passed Cisco’s Interoperability Verification testing, and one that was easy to use and maintain and could be installed within a matter of weeks.
Maurice Fickling, technical services manager at the university, stated that the school chose ISI for two reasons. “We liked how ISI dealt with our institution; they weren’t pushy or high pressure,” he said. “And their competitors were more expensive -- they were overkill with the same amount of detail. It was two simple things: we liked ISI’s people and we liked ISI’s price.”
ISI was able to get the system installed and operational within two weeks, including staff training time. ISI had successfully completed Interoperability Verification Testing for Cisco Unified Communications Manager and had a close relationship with Cisco, which appealed to UAPB. After the installation, the system ran flawlessly and resulted in costs savings for the university, making for a happy customer.
